What the letters mean
S is for Sharkskin. The shark survived 400 million years by adapting to every aquatic environment it met, not one but all of them, and that capacity for adaptation is the design philosophy behind the system.
A is for Amphibious. Modern aquatic users do not live in the water. They move continuously between water, wind, sun, boat, shore, recovery and travel, and the system was built for that whole reality, not just the immersion.
L is for Layering. No single garment serves every condition well. The right layer for the right environment, added or removed as conditions change, produces better outcomes than any single product chosen in isolation.

The lesson the mountains taught first
Mountaineers understood this long before the aquatic industry did. A single jacket cannot serve the warm valley approach, the exposed ridge, the wet traverse and the cold summit at once. The outdoor industry built technical layering systems decades ago around three jobs. A base layer next to the skin for moisture management and wicking. A mid layer to trap warmed air and provide insulation. And a breathable shell to block wind and weather. Each layer is optimised for its role, and together they adapt to changing conditions as layers are added or removed.
The aquatic industry never made that shift. It kept asking what single garment could be made better, instead of what system could be built smarter. S.A.L.T. is the answer to the question the aquatic industry never asked, the same proven base, insulation and shell logic, rebuilt for the water.
What S.A.L.T. is
S.A.L.T. stands for Sharkskin Amphibious Layering Technology. It is not a product, it is a framework, a way of thinking that starts with the environment and the activity and selects layers to match, rather than starting with a product and working backwards to justify it. The foundation is a simple observation. No two aquatic environments are identical, no two activities are identical, and no two users are identical. A single garment cannot serve all of them optimally. A system can.
The six layers
Each layer does a specific job, and together they cover the complete experience from immersion to recovery.
Base layer, moisture and sun
The layer closest to the skin manages moisture, provides UV protection and sets the comfort foundation for everything above it. A snug fit matters, because a loose base layer bunches and loses its thermal benefit. Rapid Dry is a hydrophobic single layer, water beads and sheds, UPF 50+, the fastest drying base layer available. Thermal layer, insulation and wind
This is where the system separates most clearly from traditional thinking. Thermal protection is not achieved by adding more neoprene, it is achieved by choosing the right fabric architecture. Chillproof is a three layer architecture giving warmth equivalent to a 2 to 3 mm wetsuit, 100% windproof, breathable and neutrally buoyant. T2 Chillproof is the same architecture with titanium Far Infrared nanoparticles added, warmth equivalent to a 4 to 5 mm wetsuit, for colder conditions and longer exposure.
Performance layer, active sport
For users whose demands swing between hard effort and rest in the same session. Thermal Flex is wind resistant with FIR and maximum mobility, for warmer conditions and high output. Why layers beat single solutions
The instinct is always to find one garment that does everything, because it seems simpler and cheaper. The problem is that a garment optimised for immersion is wrong for wind, one optimised for hard effort is wrong for rest, and one optimised for warmth in cold water overheats in warm water. Layers solve this because they are additive and removable.
A diver in the tropics might wear Rapid Dry alone, then add a Chillproof vest as it cools. The same diver in temperate water runs Chillproof or T2 on its own, then adds a Neptune wetsuit over the top as the water drops.
